Safe Road to Christmas: Turning Awareness into Action Across December

Rockwell’s Safe Road to Christmas campaign marked the final chapter of our 2025 Good Catch initiative, reinforcing a simple but critical message: the safest outcomes come from early intervention, shared responsibility, and everyday vigilance.

Running throughout December, the campaign brought together safety, quality, wellbeing and sustainability themes, encouraging teams across our sites to stay focused during one of the busiest periods of the year.

December Hazard Hunt: A Strong Finish to the Good Catch Campaign

The campaign concluded with a dedicated December Hazard Hunt, which proved highly effective. Over the course of the initiative, 15 hazards were identified, including several potentially high-risk issues. In multiple cases, early intervention helped prevent near misses before they could escalate.

The hazards identified ranged from exclusion zone and housekeeping issues to more serious intervention requirements. One example, shown in the photo gallery, highlighted a significant “Good Catch” where five brackets had been cut through, exposing attached drop rods. If disturbed, these could have become dislodged, presenting a severe safety risk and the potential for a serious incident or PSIF.

This type of proactive reporting is exactly what the Good Catch campaign is designed to encourage.

The Bigger Picture: Why Good Catches Matter

The December Hazard Hunt directly supported Rockwell’s Good Catch campaign, which has been running since June 2025. To date, 235 Good Catches have been logged across our sites — a strong reflection of the engagement, awareness and ownership shown by our teams.

Using Heinrich’s Triangle as a guide, each Good Catch represents:

  • 5–10 near miss opportunities prevented

  • 1–2 minor incident opportunities avoided

Applied across 235 Good Catches, this equates to approximately:

  • 1,175–2,350 near miss opportunities avoided

  • 235–470 minor incident opportunities avoided

These figures underline the real, measurable impact of identifying and addressing hazards early — long before they become incidents.

A Structured Campaign Built Around Everyday Safety

Beyond the Hazard Hunt, the Safe Road to Christmas campaign followed a structured calendar of activities designed to keep safety front of mind throughout December. These included:

  • Campaign launch and site-wide awareness messaging

  • Electrical and fire safety toolbox talks

  • Quality inspections and dedicated Quality Moments

  • Wellbeing reminders and a mental health toolbox talk focused on the Christmas period

  • Sustainability messaging, including practical guidance on having a greener Christmas

  • Working at heights awareness and “Check It Twice” Christmas safety checklists

  • Shutdown planning, final site checks and preparation for a smooth Christmas shutdown

  • Recognition through Elf and Safety Award winners

This consistent drumbeat of activity helped reinforce key messages while recognising that safety, quality and wellbeing go hand in hand — particularly at year end.
